Poster Session

The poster session and mixer for the 2024 ICSA Applied Statistics Symposium will take place on June 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Starstruck Gallery.

  • The poster competition will be judged by a distinguished panel, featuring keynote speakers, senior invited speakers, ICSA leaders, symposium committee members, and faculty and senior statisticians from academia, industry and government agencies.
  • All submitted posters will be evaluated and rated by expert judges. Presenters will have opportunities to engage in discussions and interactions with judges, attendees, and prospective employers.

Eligibility

Presenters are eligible for the poster competition if they meet these conditions:

  • They are a student, postdoc, junior faculty member, or junior statistician with a PhD or terminal degree conferred in 2020 or later.
  • They are the first author of the poster.
  • They are not a student paper award winner.*
  • They register for the symposium by the due date [May 1] and check the box labeled “eligible for the poster award competition.”
* Individuals who submitted entries to the student paper competition may enter the same paper in the poster competition. If the work wins a student paper award or receives honorable mention in the student paper competition, it will not be considered for a poster competition award, but the student may still participate in the poster session as a presenter.

Abstract Submission

The abstract of the poster should be submitted through the ICSA Applied Statistics Symposium online registration system (poster submission is included in the registration process; choose “poster presenter” as the registration type). The abstract is limited to 200 words, 1 page.

Those who are eligible for and wish to participate in the poster competition must check the box labeled “eligible for the poster award competition” during registration. The deadline for entering the poster competition is May 1, 2024.

Poster Format

The available display space for each printed poster is 91 inches wide x 45 inches high (i.e., slightly smaller than 8 x 4 feet). Pushpins will be provided.

Edge for Scholars has a roundup of poster resources that may be helpful if you are seeking guidance in creating an effective poster. Vendors used by participants in past gatherings at Vanderbilt include PosterNerd, FedEx Office, and institutional printing services. (Neither ICSA nor the Department of Biostatistics have formal relationships with these vendors; they are listed here as a courtesy.)

Awards

Three to six winners will be selected based on the poster award evaluation criteria:

  • Methodology: novelty and appropriateness for research aims
  • Applications: significance, rigor, and impact
  • Poster quality: logical flow, organization, effectiveness in conveying key message
